Bibliography: Bagnall, R. S. et al., Graffiti from the Basilica in the Agora of Smyrna (2016): 129.
Commentary: Very faded dipinto of a ship located at the center of the back wall of Bay 9, toward the bottom. The most evident element is the cordage (τοπεῖα) that connects the mast, the yard, and the sail (all almost completely vanished) to the bulwark. The prow and the stern are poorly preserved, while the bulwark is characterized by a criss-cross pattern of thick lines. No oars are visible.
